Tumauini is a landlocked municipality in the coastal province of Isabela.
The municipality has a land area of 467.30 square kilometers or 180.43 square miles which constitutes 3.76% of Isabela’s total area. Its population as determined by the 2015 Census was 67,650. This represented 4.25% of the total population of Isabela province, or 1.96% of the overall population of the Cagayan Valley region. Based on these figures, the population density is computed at 145 inhabitants per square kilometer or 375 inhabitants per square mile.
Tumauini has 46 barangays as shown in the following table.
According to the 2015 Census, the age group with the highest population in Tumauini is 5 to 9, with 7,370 individuals. Conversely, the age group with the lowest population is 80 and over, with 417 individuals.
Combining age groups together, those aged 14 and below, consisting of the the young dependent population which include infants/babies, children and young adolescents/teenagers, make up an aggregate of 32.66% (22,094). Those aged 15 up to 64, roughly, the economically active population and actual or potential members of the work force, constitute a total of 63.23% (42,773). Finally, old dependent population consisting of the senior citizens, those aged 65 and over, total 4.11% (2,783) in all.
The computed Age Dependency Ratios mean that among the population of Tumauini, there are 52 youth dependents to every 100 of the working age population; there are 7 aged/senior citizens to every 100 of the working population; and overall, there are 58 dependents (young and old-age) to every 100 of the working population.
The median age of 24 indicates that half of the entire population of Tumauini are aged less than 24 and the other half are over the age of 24.
The population of Tumauini grew from 16,606 in 1960 to 67,650 in 2015, an increase of 51,044 people. The latest census figures in 2015 denote a positive growth rate of 2.82%, or an increase of 9,187 people, from the previous population of 58,463 in 2010.
The town’s economy is in a fast-moving basis. Aside from agriculture being the main backbone of the town’s economy, commerce and trade also became the second economic-based income of the town and its residents with the opening of numerous business establishments, hotels and financial institutions that generated many opportunities and more employment for its residents.
According to the Bureau of Local Government Finance, the annual regular revenue of Tumauini for the fiscal year of 2016 was ₱189,489,503.42.
